American Idol Contestant Kissed by Katy Perry

In October of 2017, the American Idol auditions were held. A contestant now very well known, Benjamin Glaze, 19 years old, left the tryout startled by the surprise first kiss he received was from Katy Perry.

Benjamin Glaze comes from a highly conservative family and had been saving his first kiss for his first relationship, until Katy snatched it at the audition. Benjamin later stated, “I do not think I was harassed by Katy Perry, and I am thankful for the judges comments and critiques.” During the two-night premiere at ABC’s reboot he added, “I was uncomfortable in a sense of how I have never been kissed before and was not expecting it.” The moment they kissed was heavily promoted by American Idol and social media, including Katy’s tweet regarding Benjamin:

American Idol contestant, Benjamin Glaze, then made a instagram post conveying that he wanted to clear a few things up for anyone that was confused or concerned. Then he wrote, “The way certain articles are worded is not done by me, and my true intentions are not accurately represented in every article you read about the situation, I am not complaining about the kiss, I am very honored and thankful to have been apart of American Idol. The main purpose for the show is to find stars and new music artist. I do wish I would have performed better in the moment. I should have picked another song to sing and calmed myself down regardless of the kiss. I should have been able to perform under pressure.” Katy Perry added that she meant no harm to Benjamin and acted upon the kiss since in the beginning of the trial he mentioned he’d never been in a relationship. Concluding that despite the unforeseen kiss, Benjamin will be making and appearance on popular singing competition tv series, American Idol.
