On February 26, Aleksandr Krushelnitckii lost his bronze medal in mixed team curler. He was caught using Meldonium which is illegal to use.
It is against the rules, to be on any kind of dope during the Olympics. When he had to take the drug test they found Meldonium in his system. Meldonium prevents muscle damage and heart damage when there is lack of oxygen in the body. It doesn’t enhance the athletic performance. The court of Arbitration opened up an investigation against him.
TASS, a Russian News Agency, commented, “According to the rules of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), any concentration of Meldonium in the athlete’s sample is a breach in the anti-doping rules.” Aleksandr Krushelnitckii has stated that he didn’t take it and that it was all set up so that he would get into trouble.
Russia had been in trouble before and lost the privilege to walk under their flag in the opening ceremony of this Olympics. The committee was going to let the athletes walk with the flag in the closing ceremony. With this scandal happening, they were still unable to walk under the Russian flag in the closing ceremony of the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.
