The year 2018 was no normal start for globally rising Kpop group BTS as they continued to not only beat the charts with the infamous remix song, “Mic Drop” featuring Steve Aoki and Desiigner, but to also take said song to the golden wall. On February 3, 2018, rapper Desiigner tweeted, “Miic Drop went gold” tagging both BTS and Steve Aoki, confirming that BTS’s remix of ‘Mic Drop’ had gone gold by RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). To gain gold by RIAA, the song needs more than 500,000 equal downloads and views via audio and video streaming, where 150 streams equal up to one full view counted for. It sure is a big accomplishment as the remix of, ‘Mic Drop’ was released just in November, gaining a lot of attention right away.
The attention also gave the song a nine-week stay on the Hot 100 charts, being number 28 and then dropping to 84 on the February 3rd chart update. “Mic Drop” became apparent on many charts, like being number 40 on the Rhythmic Songs, which in turn gave the song a chance to turn up on radio stations that focus on hip-hop/R&B. This remix alone has gotten the most attention on the newest album where the original “Mic Drop” lays along with other songs in the album, “Love Yourself: Her” released September 18, 2017.
