The former head of the FBI is hired to investigate Russia’s possible role in Trump’s election. Mueller was assigned to investigate any connection between the Russian government and the campaign of Donald Trump on May 17th, 2017.
Connections between Trump and Russia were suspected after numerous reports regarding Russia’s part in the hacking of the Democratic National Convention’s email database. The first charges were presented in October to Rick Gates. Gates is Trump’s former campaign manager and business associate. He was charged with 12 counts, these included charges such as conspiracy against the US, money laundering and other financial charges.
Flynn was also charged with crimes associated with relations with Russia. He was an advocate and advisor for the Trump campaign. So far four people have been charged.
Trump has tried to belittle former campaign officials and Hillary Clinton by attacking them and making allegations that Clinton is connected to Russia. This has not yet been proven. Trump has referred to Mueller’s investigation multiple times as a “political witch-hunt.”
Trump declined an interview with Mueller’s team and claims, “When they have no collusion- and nobody has found any collusion at any level- it seems unlikely that you’d even have an interview.” Does Trump have a point or is he just avoiding what he may be hiding from the United States?
