Songwriter, singer, and fashion designer Selena Quintanilla was born in Texas the year of 1971. Selena began performing as a child; at the age of 10, she became the lead singer of her family band named Selena y Los Dinos. The family band started gigs at local parties and restaurants, then traveled to bigger gigs in a van.
Slowly, the band became more and more successful. One concert held a record-breaking crowd of more than 61,000 fans at the Houston Astrodome on Feb. 26, 1995. A month after her biggest performance, Selena died from a gunshot at age 23. She was shot by the founder of her fan club.
To this day, she touches many hearts. Many look up to her and see her as a role model. On Nov. 3, 2017, Selena was honored with her own Hollywood Star. The Hollywood Walk of Fame drew over 4,000 fans. With this amazing turnout, we can see that many still love her music and she hasn’t faded away. At one of her concerts, she said that, “the goal isn’t to live forever, but to create something that will.” She has left us something to remember and honor her by. Selena will forever touch many hearts; her life and music will be remembered for years to come.
