Sleep is so overrated, almost every teen in the US just wants to stay up late, and watch Netflix and text. Little do they know that their bodies are slowly dying with the lack of sleep. They put themselves at risk of weight gain, heart disease, depression, and many other issues, the list is never-ending. It’s crazy how one small thing can affect everything.
How much sleep do we need based on our age? Studies have shown that infants need 17 hours, toddlers need 10 to 12 hours, juniors need 7 to 8 hours, and seniors need 6 to 9 hours. In order to get an idea, I had a chance to interview four students of each grade in Weld Central High School. I asked the two questions, “how much sleep do you get?” “Do you think that it’s enough?” A majority of the students said that they sleep 7 to 8 hours a night. To add on, the students said that it wasn’t enough for them to get a good night sleep. Contemplating if this is not enough for these students, then what is? Can this be the reason why students have a hard time concentrating, and keeping their grades up? Or is it because they are too busy keeping up with the Kardashians at 12am when they should be sleeping? Well, that leaves all of us something to sleep on.
